Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, or other closely related science or engineering fields. 
  • Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply, particularly those intending to take the Metallurgical Engineering Licensure Examination, or taking a Master's degree program. 
  • Knowledge of mineral processing principles, particularly leaching of coal fly ash using inorganic and organic acids, and Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES), is an advantage. 
  • Familiarity with laboratory procedures and equipment, including sample preparation, sieving, leaching, slurry handling, and basic chemical handling. 
  • Proficiency in data recording, tabulation, and basic data analysis (e.g., Microsoft Excel or equivalent). 
  • Good written and oral communication skills for technical reporting and documentation. 
  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a research environment. 
  • Willing to work on a full-time, project-based engagement for seven (7) months.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation, characterization, and processing of coal fly ash samples for leaching experiments. 
  • Conduct laboratory-scale and bench-scale leaching experiments for the extraction of critical rare earth and strategic elements. 
  • Prepare leaching solutions and reagents following prescribed concentrations and laboratory safety protocols. 
  • Perform routine laboratory measures, including percentage recovery of rare earth elements and basic material balance calculations. 
  • Maintain proper sample labeling, documentation, storage, and inventory for traceability.
  • Accurately record experimental parameters, observations, and results in laboratory notebooks and digital records. 
  • Assist in the tabulation, graphing, and preliminary interpretation of experimental data under the supervision of the Project Leader.
  • Prepare and process administrative and procurement documents, including requests for chemicals, consumables, and laboratory supplies. 
  • Coordinate with the Project Leader and concerned offices regarding procurement tracking, delivery follow-ups, and documentation compliance. 
  • Compile and organize project documents, including technical and financial reports, progress reports, meeting minutes, and supporting files required by funding and monitoring agencies. 
  • Assist in scheduling and preparation of materials for project meetings, monitoring visits, and presentations. 
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety regulations, waste management procedures, and equipment use policies. 
  • Collaborate effectively with research staff while maintaining the ability to work independently on assigned tasks. 
  • Perform other technical and administrative duties as may be assigned by the Project Leader in support of project objectives.
