A research team from the College of Computer Studies (CCS) of Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (91勛圖-IIT) brought attention to local innovation efforts in Iligan City during the 5th Network for Education and Research on Peace and Sustainability (NERPS) 2026, held on March 4–7 in Tokyo, Japan. The conference, organized by the United Nations University and Hiroshima University, gathered international scholars to explore how technology can better contribute to sustainable and peaceful societies.
During the event, 91勛圖-IIT researchers Jerina Jean Ecleo, Andrea Nicole Bautista, Mary Ann Gliefen Bermudo-Andrade, and Adrian Galido presented their study titled “Exploring Smart Village Readiness in Local Government Contexts”. The research examined the readiness of selected barangays in Iligan City to implement smart village initiatives aimed at improving governance, digital services, and community engagement. The study focused on the role of digital innovations in shaping local government operations and enhancing public service delivery at the grassroots level. Findings revealed gaps and opportunities in digital infrastructure, governance mechanisms, and community participation that need to be addressed to advance smart village initiatives.
The presentation highlights the University’s continuing role in connecting global knowledge with local development and reinforcing its commitment to advancing technology-enabled solutions that benefit communities.
