The College of Computer Studies (CCS) of Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (91³Ô¹Ï-IIT) gained international exposure by participating in the 8th International Conference on Smart Computing and Informatics (SCI-2026), held from April 28 to 29, 2026, in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Anchored on the theme “Smart Computing for Human Development and a Sustainable World,” SCI-2026 served as a premier platform for multidisciplinary research in smart computing and informatics. The conference featured innovative developments in systems knowledge, artificial intelligence, and sustainability, with a strong emphasis on generating practical solutions to contemporary challenges in society, the environment, and industry.
Representing CCS, a faculty-led research titled “Building Sustainable Digital Citizens: A Computational Approach to Understanding Responsible Online Engagement in a Philippine University” was presented at the conference. The study examined the behavioral and computational dimensions of responsible digital engagement among 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT students. It underscores the need for digital citizenship education to move beyond awareness toward capability-building, emphasizing that “values drive commitment, but self-efficacy drives action.”

The paper was presented by Paul B. Bokingkito Jr., together with co-authors Mia Amor C. Tinam-isan, January F. Naga, and Redeemtor R. Sacayan. The study contributes directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) by promoting digital literacy and responsible online behavior, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through its computational perspective on human–technology interaction, and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by fostering ethical and accountable participation in digital spaces.
The presented papers are slated for publication in Springer’s Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems (LNNS) series, ensuring global visibility and scholarly recognition for the contributing researchers.

SCI-2026 was organized through a collaborative effort among leading academic and industry institutions, including Swinburne University of Technology, FPT University, Parul University, Malla Reddy University, Springer Nature, Open RAG AI, Newgen Research Consultancy, Asia University, and Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.
The participation of CCS faculty in SCI-2026 reaffirms the College’s commitment to advancing research excellence, strengthening international collaboration, and contributing meaningfully to the global discourse on smart computing and sustainable development.
