Quezon City, March 31, 2026 – The Mindanao State University (91³Ô¹Ï) Board of Regents (BOR), chaired by Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson Dr. Shirley Agrupis, greenlit a slate of transformative agenda items from 91³Ô¹Ï (91³Ô¹Ï-IIT) during its 274th en banc meeting at the CHED central office in Diliman.

The approvals, spanning financial, academic, faculty, and administrative matters, aim to bolster student support, operational efficiency, and institutional growth amid rising enrollment and national mandates.

In financial matters, the BOR endorsed proposed guidelines for student travel assistance on official trips, capping support amounts and clarifying funding sources for transparency—excluding separately funded programs. It also institutionalized the technical and laboratory services of the Premier Research Institute of Science and Mathematics (PRISM) with a new fee structure to serve internal and external clients like researchers and industries.

Amendments to the 2026 Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence (PRAISE) were approved, allocating P4,800,000 under Fund 05 to refine employee recognition after a six-year review.

A new policy on student financial assistance and immediate calamity response fund was established to provide equitable aid during disasters, ensuring academic continuity.

On academic fronts, revisions to faculty load credits introduced a multiple-adviser model per year level to handle surging enrollments of 80–160 students. Colleges will now adopt “Vice-Dean” nomenclature for assistant deans, emphasizing leadership roles.

Student support for international events gained merit-based guidelines, while the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) majors in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics were unified under BSEd Science specializations to align with CHED standards.

Revised curricula for Master of Arts in English Language Studies (MAELS) and PhD in English Language Studies (PhDELS) were also ratified.

The approvals included the renaming of the Master of Arts in Education major in Guidance and Counseling (MAEDGC) to Master of Arts in Counseling (MAC), a change aimed at modernizing the program’s identity to keep it competitive and aligned with national standards.

Faculty matters saw final ranks granted to five new recruits across colleges.

Administratively, the updated Information Systems Strategic Plan (ISSP) for FY 2026-2028 addressed DICT feedback for better digital governance. Sixty-one plantilla positions were created for auxiliary services per National Budget Circular No. 598.

The 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT Center for Creative and Critical Writing (MIC3W) to champion Mindanaoan literature and sustainable cities and the 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT Press to amplify regional scholarship were established.

For notation, the revised academic calendar for AY 2025-2026 was acknowledged.

91³Ô¹Ï-IIT Chancellor Prof. Dr. Alizedney M. Ditucalan expressed delight: “I am happy with the Board’s positive action, which strengthens our commitment to excellence, equity, and innovation.”

The path to approval began with the Presidents Advisory Council (PAC) meeting on February 11 in 91³Ô¹Ï-Marawi, followed by the Board’s Finance Committee session on March 26 in Pasay City and Executive Committee meeting on March 27 in Parañaque.

These moves position 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT as a leader in Mindanao higher education, addressing enrollment pressures, research needs, and regional gaps.
