“Through this press, we strengthen our voice as a university and ensure that the intellectual contributions of our faculty and researchers are not only published, but recognized as part of 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT’s enduring legacy.”

With this statement, 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT Chancellor Prof. Dr. Alizedney M. Ditucalan underscored the significance of the newly approved 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT Press, following its approval by the 91³Ô¹Ï Board of Regents (91³Ô¹Ï BOR).

The establishment of the press marks a major step for the Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (91³Ô¹Ï-IIT) in consolidating its scholarly identity and expanding its role in academic publishing. The initiative is expected to position the university as a leading source of knowledge not only in science and technology but also in Mindanao Studies, peace scholarship, and community-engaged research.

Authored by Associate Professor Honeylet E. Dumoran, Ph.D., the proposal outlines the creation of a dedicated university press that will serve as an institutional platform for producing and disseminating high-quality academic work. The 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT Press will publish scholarly monographs, edited volumes, textbooks, academic journals, research reports, and special publications.

The proposal highlights that 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT has reached a stage of institutional maturity where the volume and quality of its research outputs necessitate a stable and credible publishing platform. At present, many faculty members rely on external journals and commercial publishers, limiting the university’s ability to define and consolidate its own scholarly voice.

By establishing its own press, 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT aims to provide a structured mechanism for transforming research outputs into enduring scholarly contributions while ensuring that these works are clearly identified with the institution. The move is also expected to strengthen 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT’s leadership in regionally grounded and interdisciplinary scholarship, particularly in Mindanao Studies and peace research.

Aligned with the university’s mandates of instruction, research, and public service, the 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT Press will enhance research visibility, promote indigenous and local scholarship, and institutionalize rigorous peer-review standards.

The initiative draws inspiration from established academic publishers such as Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, University of the Philippines Press, and Ateneo de Manila University Press, which demonstrate how university presses can elevate institutional prestige and global academic presence.

The 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT Press envisions becoming a respected voice in Philippine and Mindanao scholarship, advancing socially responsive knowledge across disciplines. Its publications will span scholarly books, instructional materials, journals, and policy-oriented reports, with future plans for specialized imprints such as research monographs and a Mindanao Studies series.

The proposal for the establishment of the 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT Press was approved by the 91³Ô¹Ï Board of Regents during its en banc meeting on March 31, 2026 at the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) headquarters in Diliman, Quezon City.
