In a significant boost to the internationalization efforts of Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (91³Ô¹Ï-IIT), University Researcher Mr. Jaypee S. Yongco has been officially recognized for his pivotal role as the Lead Editor of a forthcoming special issue in the Journal of International Women’s Studies (JIWS).

The appointment follows Mr. Yongco’s standout performance at the 11th World Conference on Women’s Studies (WCWS) held in Bali, Indonesia, where he was honored with the Superlative Oral Presenter Award. This collaboration, formalized by Bridgewater State University, underscores 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT’s growing influence in the global academic landscape.

The special issue, titled "Talking Shop: Feminisms and the Crucial Issues of our Times," is a direct product of the scholarly networks built during the Bali conference. As Lead Editor, Mr. Yongco has been instrumental in curating global submissions and managing the rigorous peer-review process, bridging diverse perspectives between international authors and reviewers, and co-authoring the Introduction, setting the intellectual tone for a volume that addresses pressing gender and societal challenges.

Dr. Diana J. Fox, Founding Editor of JIWS and Professor at Bridgewater State University, lauded Mr. Yongco’s "invaluable contribution," noting that his leadership ensures the publication will be a cornerstone of the 12th World Conference on Women’s Studies.

This achievement reflects 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) by fostering high-level academic research and providing a platform for knowledge dissemination; SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by leading a journal dedicated to exploring and dismantling the barriers faced by women globally and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by demonstrating a successful North-South academic collaboration between the Philippines and the United States.

For 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT, Mr. Yongco’s success serves as a testament to the institution's capacity to produce researchers who can compete and lead on the world stage. His dual role as a DBA student and a University Researcher highlights the institute's vibrant research culture, proving that Mindanao-based scholars are at the forefront of tackling "the crucial issues of our times."

Dr. Fox's official recognition letter praised the work's significant impact, stating it "has been an invaluable contribution both to the journal and to women’s studies global scholarship.”

The special issue is slated for online release in May 2026, promising to bring further prestige to the 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT community and the broader Philippine academic circle.
