With the continuing advocacy to make every Filipino financially literate, the College of Economics, Business, and Accountancy (CEBA) brought the mission to Balay Silangan in Brgy. Abuno on April 8, 2026, providing drug reformists with the tools to rebuild their lives and have a smooth reintegration into the community through financial literacy training.
Balay Silangan, a community-based facility and intervention, aims to empower drug reformists or drug offenders. A collaborative effort between the We Care Office of Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (91³Ô¹Ï-IIT) and the Iligan City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (ICADAC), this training significantly contributed to the goal of empowerment and community building.
Beyond the abstract theories, the two-hour session dived straight into the practicalities of today’s economy. Assistant Professor Charlyn M. Capulong gave a lecture on the importance of setting financial goals, understanding inflation, and taught them to become smart savings strategists. Miss Stephanie R. Concha, the training assistant of CEBA, further discussed the complexities of budgeting and introduced the different types of insurance, equipping the reformists with a more secure future.

The reformists, initially shy and observing, became eager and patient participants. They turned the training into a dialogue and shared their fair share of experiences and hard-learned lessons about personal finance.
The short session ended on a high note, with the participants expressing a new sense of direction. ICADAC members shared their gratitude to the CEBA team for providing the reformists with essential life skills before they leave Balay Silangan.
In response, the speakers reaffirmed their commitment to advocacy, emphasizing that it is high time to bring financial education programs to vulnerable sectors like Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) and reformists, to build a more sustainable path for reintegration.
