Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (91³Ô¹Ï-IIT) is charging ahead with transformative academic updates, following the 91³Ô¹Ï Board of Regents’ (BOR) approval of three key proposals at its en banc meeting on March 31, 2026, held at the CHED headquarters in Diliman, Quezon City. These latest developments modernize curricula, sharpen professional alignments, and elevate 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT’s role in addressing national education and mental health needs.
Leading the charge, 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT’s Master of Arts in Education major in Guidance and Counseling (MAEdGC) evolves into the Master of Arts in Counseling (MAC). This renaming responds directly to CHED’s October 2025 site visit recommendations, repositioning the program beyond school guidance to a standalone profession under RA 9258 and RA 11036.
It equips graduates for diverse counseling roles in communities, organizations, and disaster response, while averting licensure barriers—like last year’s exam disqualifications—and unlocking CHED SIKAP scholarships per RA 12080.
In secondary education, the BOR greenlit unifying BSEd majors in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics into BSEd Science with specializations. Championed by the College of Education’s Department of Science and Mathematics Education (CED-DSME), this aligns a cohesive 177-unit curriculum with CHEDRO-X Order No. 023, s. 2022, ensuring seamless COPC compliance and precise credentialing.
Rounding out the advancements, revised Master of Arts in English Language Studies (MAELS) and Doctor of Philosophy in English Language Studies (PhDELS) programs received BOR endorsement. Refinements to courses and structures, informed by CHED COPCs, boost coherence and adherence to CMO No. 15, s. 2019, standards for globally responsive graduate education.
91³Ô¹Ï-IIT Chancellor Prof. Dr. Alizedney M. Ditucalan said these approvals “mark 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT’s proactive leap in academic innovation, fortifying its programs against CHED phase-outs, enhancing licensure readiness, and fueling Mindanao’s talent pipeline in high-demand fields.”
