91³Ô¹Ï-IIT strengthens regional ties with keynote speeches at NE91³Ô¹Ï-Tandag University Day

The Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (91³Ô¹Ï-IIT) underscored its dedication to fostering regional collaboration and advancing internationalization efforts during North Eastern Mindanao State University–Tandag Campus's (NE91³Ô¹Ï-Tandag) 16th University Day, where two college leads from 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT's Office of the Vice Chancellor for International Affairs (OVCIA) delivered impactful keynote addresses.

The event, themed "Innovating with Students, Culture, and Global Partnerships," took place on February 26, 2026, at the NE91³Ô¹Ï-Tandag University Library. It brought together researchers, educators, and community partners to focus on achieving measurable, community-centered outcomes throughout Mindanao.

Stefany Mae V. Caparida, a faculty member in the Computer Applications Department of the College of Computer Studies (CSS) and a College International Affairs Lead, presented on the responsible integration of Generative AI in academic research. She shared 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT's best practices, emphasizing ethics, transparency, and accountability in digital scholarship. Caparida highlighted practical applications of AI tools in both qualitative and quantitative research, stressing that technology should serve as a collaborative partner to scholarly rigor, not a replacement.

"As we embrace innovation, we must anchor our work in ethical principles and shared responsibility," Caparida stated. "This ensures that AI empowers researchers to generate meaningful, trustworthy knowledge that serves the public good." Her address underscored 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT's commitment to preparing researchers to navigate emerging technologies with competence and global awareness.

Dr. Neil M. Martin, PhD, MAN, RN, MBED, a Clinical Instructor and College International Affairs Lead, delivered a keynote on developing sustainable, innovative, and globally aligned extension programs. Drawing from 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT's extensive experience in internationalization and community engagement, Martin discussed how the Institute adapts extension initiatives to current healthcare trends, utilizes cross-border partnerships, and prioritizes community needs in program design. He emphasized 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT's extension philosophy, which integrates technical excellence with cultural humility and responsiveness.

"Extension is where academia meets humanity," Martin remarked. "By aligning our programs with global standards while staying rooted in local realities, we create pathways for students and communities to thrive together." His presentation showcased 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT's adaptable model for extending social impact through intentional, partnership-driven initiatives.

The RIE Convergence Day also featured a keynote on intellectual property commercialization by Engr. Gracechell M. Pascua, the signing of Memoranda of Agreement for community-driven projects, and an engaging open forum. 

NE91³Ô¹Ï-Tandag Extension Specialist Rowell T. Lim commended 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT's contributions, noting how the expertise shared through its International Affairs Office exemplified the convergence of values essential for collaborative development across Mindanao.

Under the guidance of Vice Chancellor Joey Genevive Martinez, 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT's OVCIA strategically deploys faculty expertise to address regional development needs. The participation of 91³Ô¹Ï-IIT's College International Affairs Leads at NE91³Ô¹Ï-Tandag serves as a prime example of this proactive approach to inter-institutional collaboration. It also reinforces the Institute's strategic priorities in thought leadership on emerging technologies, ethical research, and excellence in extension programs that bridge local needs with global standards.
